About the West Central Neighborhood Alliance (WCNA)

West Central is the historic heart of downtown Springfield. We are a community of residents, business owners, and advocates dedicated to preserving our unique heritage while building a vibrant, sustainable future. Our neighborhood is a place where deep institutional knowledge meets a practical, hands-on approach to progress.

What We Do

The WCNA acts as a bridge between neighbors and city leadership to ensure our voices are heard on the issues that matter most. We focus on tangible outcomes that improve our quality of life:

  • Community Advocacy: We work closely with Zone 3 City Council and the Springfield Police Department to address safety, infrastructure, and housing stability.

  • Historic Preservation: We partner with organizations like Queen City Preservation to protect our historic architecture and provide resources for homeowners.

  • Economic Vitality: Through initiatives like the Route 66 and Grant Avenue Parkway curb appeal grants, we provide matching funds to help local businesses and residents improve their property.

  • Environmental Stewardship: Our Green Committee leads "Adopt-a-Street" cleanups, stream restorations, and annual Earth Day challenges to keep our neighborhood clean.

  • Neighborhood Fellowship: From kickball tournaments and summer socials at Mother’s Brewing to the Birthplace of Route 66 Festival, we create opportunities for neighbors to connect and thrive together.

Get Involved

We believe in structured thinking and honest feedback. Whether you want to lead a committee, volunteer for a cleanup, or simply stay informed, there is a place for you here.

  • General Membership Meetings: Held the fourth Tuesday of every month at 6:30 pm at Resurrection Church.

  • Committee Opportunities: Join one of our active groups focusing on Planning & Finance, Communications, Social Events, Housing, or Safety & Security .
